Life Care Plan or Medical Cost Projection?

Life Care Plan

A Life Care Plan is indicated when the subject is at or near a medical endpoint, that is, medical condition is stable and not expected to change significantly barring unforeseeable circumstances or expected changes with aging. The Life Care Plan projects lifetime costs for an individual. It is based on medical record and billing review and in collaboration with patient/family, caregivers, several local and national service and equipment providers, and other involved parties. On-site evaluation is included if approved by the requesting party.

A Life Care Plan is a comprehensive "road map" for care. It includes projected evaluations, therapeutic modalities, diagnostic testing, medical equipment costs and replacement schedules, home furnishings and modifications, aids for independent living if appropriate, drug and supply needs, home care or facility care needs, future routine medical care, health and strength maintenance, transportation, vocational and recreational considerations, and potential complications with implications.

A Life Care Plan usually takes between 30-60 hours and 4-6 weeks depending on complexity.

Medical Cost Projection

A Medical Cost Projection is appropriate at the time of acute injury or new diagnosis of a chronic condition.

Information is more generalized for the diagnosis or condition. A Medical Cost Projection includes information about the injury/diagnosis, usual course, expected diagnostics, expected routine care, and other commonly used intervention. Information is most often obtained from medical records, online sources, and representative service providers in the subject's geographical area. It is most useful for short-term projections, usually 6-12 months.

Medical Cost Projections are most often used to get an initial understanding of the potential scope of a case, but are not to be considered to be comprehensive.

A Medical Cost Projection usually takes between 5-20 hours and can be done on an expedited basis, usually within two weeks.
